A Rock Chalk Weekend

We enjoyed some beautiful football weather this weekend (notice I said weather -- not just football) as well as some fun shopping and great company! Here are a few pictures from Saturday in Lawrence!Grayson all decked out for the game

Uncle Dave helped Grayson check out a life-sized Jayhawk on Mass St.A bird's eye view
Grayson found this cat, asleep, in a store window on Mass St. He loves cats and Jerry hates them. Hence, we only have a hunting dog. =)
Our favorite home-decorating store has a 10 year old Golden Retriever that "works" there. Grayson and Aunt Kristen checked him out.
This is a Jayhawk-mermaid combo... a little different, but hey, it's Lawrence. =)

It was a fun weekend! Too bad the 'Hawks are out of the Top 25, but here's to at least making a bowl and beating those Cats next week! =)

Uncle Brentley's Burrito

Last weekend was KU's Fall Break, and this was Uncle Brentley's very last ever Fall Break. So it was pretty special of him to spend a lot of it with Grayson! He decided to wrap Grayson up like a burrito, and it was a hit!! A huge hit!! Grayson kept asking Uncle Brentley to wrap him up again!
The burrito gets started with Brett sprinkling a little cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and salsa on Grayson. It appears that Fletcher is un-fazed at this point.

Roll that burrito up!

Now for the fun swinging part...All of the adults decided that just watching Grayson swing and fly around like that gave US motion sickness... =)Could they possibly be related? I see some similarities here...
Thanks, Brett, for a fun-filled weekend with your favorite nephew! We were glad to have you back home for the weekend!

Quirks

I have been tagged by my friend, Lindsey, to name 5 of my quirks. I did a post somewhat similar to this awhile ago, but I asked Jerry for his input on this one. After all, he does live with me. What better person to remind me of what makes me tick or drives me crazy!! So, here we go:

1. Hanging up clothes -- I despise hanging up clothes after doing laundry. I love putting clothes in the washer, moving them to the dryer, and I'll even bring the hamper full of clean clothes back to our room... but then, the clothes sit wrinkled in the hamper for days or weeks before I hang them up.

2. Ketchup and Mayonnaise -- They are both disgusting in my book. I eat fries plain -- all the time. I only use yellow mustard as a dressing, and the texture of mayo gives me the willies. Yuck!

3. Shaving -- I'm definitely a little OCD on this one. I shave my armpits and legs DAILY -- no matter if it's summer or winter, or if I'm getting all dressed up or just wearing sweats for the day. I cannot stand prickly legs!!

4. Napkins -- Growing up, my mom enforced the rule that you must have your napkin in your lap at all times when eating. Jerry grew up exactly the opposite -- there were no napkins unless you spilled something. We have napkins ALWAYS at meals, and I even have a stash of them in the console of my car. You never know when you might need one.

5. And, finally, my beloved computer -- I have learned over the past 5 days, that I am hopelessly addicted to my little laptop. I hadn't renewed my virus protection plan recently, and the computer became infected. Needless to say, while it was getting fixed and I was computer-less for 5 days, I felt somewhat lost. Out of touch. I missed it like a friend. Sad, but true. =)

So -- what are your quirks?? I tag: Kim, Althea, Theresa, Jill, and Ashley.

A North Dakota wedding weekend

This past weekend, we drove from Kansas to North Dakota to celebrate the wedding of Jerry's sister, Jenny. We drove up to ND (all 700 miles EACH WAY) with Jerry's brother, Darren and his wife, Jacey. The four of us had a great time talking and asking deep questions, and then the guys started pheasant spotting and the girls got caught up on some good reading. We made it in 11 hours straight -- with 3 stops lasting no more than 5 minutes each. We were moving fast to make it in time for the rehearsal dinner! Here we are at Jenny and Jon's house, having breakfast the morning of the wedding.

While we were waiting for the wedding pics to start, Jerry decided to "lighten everyone's emotional load" by dressing up and running around as a Santa. He and Darren found some costumes stashed inside one of the church classrooms. They definitely brought smiles to our faces!

We left North Dakota on Saturday evening, and drove through all of South Dakota and into north Nebraska to spend the night. It was dark, foggy, and rainy, and we met up with 4 large deer standing in the middle of the road at different times during the evening. Needless to say, we were glad to get back to Kansas safe and sound on Sunday!!

Congratulations, Jenny and Jon! Enjoy your honeymoon in Montana!

Pumpkin Patch

Grayson's preschool class took a field trip today to the Walters Pumpkin Patch in Burns, KS. I was busy with a commitment at church, so my mom graciously volunteered to go. She and Grayson had a great time! We've had beautiful weather -- cool enough for a jacket in the morning hours!

Check out those HUGE gourds!!

Grayson found "his" pumpkin
Grayson and Nana Sliding down a really cool slide... notice there's even an underground part. G was sure it was in the sewer. Ha! Can you tell he's a boy? =)
Sliding FAST!This was the equivalent to a sand box, but it was filled with corn! Cool!!
Thanks, Nana, for going with Grayson on his field trip to the pumpkin patch!

Bible Study BBQ at the lake

The girls' Bible study that I am in and have been meeting with for 4 years now usually does a end-of-summer and a Christmas get-together. I know it's October, but our summer get-together got rained out. We all met at our friends' lake house, about 30 minutes east of Wichita. We grilled burgers and dogs, the kids and dads fished, and then enjoyed s'mores and a bonfire. Here are the girls:Stacy, Nanci, me, Jami, Kristy, Katie
(Stacy, Jami, and I are all pregnant...)
Brett decides that Jerry should give him a piggy-back ride =)

Smellin' studly

Tonight Grayson asked if he could take a bath in my bathtub. Of course it is WAY cool for a 3 1/2 year old as it can hold lots of bubbles and then he can turn the jets on. Anyway, as I was running the bath water, I showed Grayson some new bubble bath I had just purchased.
"Grayson, look," I said, "Here's some new Ocean Breeze bubble bath for you to use."
I held up the open container for him to smell. "Do you like it?" I asked.
"Mmmm," Grayson replied, smiling. "It smells just like Uncle Dave." =)
